So I created a peer link to another server, but I can't see or query devices on that server.

My simple peerlist.json looks something like this:

{
  "peers":[
    {
      "name":"remote",
      "host":"https://example.com:1107"
    }
  ]
}

Why can't I see the devices on remote?

It's important to understand the direction of peer links, who is the initiator, who is the receiver, and who grants access to their devices.

The server which initiates the peer link grants access to their devices to the receiving peer.  The initiator is the one with the definition in the peerlist.json config file.  So in your case, 'remote' is the receiver, and 'remote' has access to the initiators devices.  It doesn't work both ways.

However, with that said, it is possible to set up peer links in both directions. If one wanted this, server a would define a peer link to server b, and server b would define a peer link to server a.  In this manner, server a can see server b's devices, and server b can see server a's devices too. But that's probably not what you're after here.

The real takeaway is that the initiating peer server is giving permission for the receiver to access its devices.
